Eager to show off my Oval to the regular Vee Dub nutters like myself, I couldn't wait to get on the road. One problem, a teenage daughter with a serious attitude problem. Once again, what is supposed to be a nice family outing, turned into a yelling match at 7.30am in the morning. Both her (Bree) and myself dug in determined to win! She knew I hated being late and am the joke of the Club when it comes to meeting on time in the morning. So I took a different approach. I calmly rang Vicki and told her not to wait for us, we will meet them all there. I then went into Bree's room and, again calmly, told her that I was willing to wait till lunchtime for her to get out of bed and get her butt in the car, I was in no hurry. So with that, she gave a big sigh and said "this sux" and got up, got dressed and we arrived about an hour later than the rest of the gang.

'The Big O' slowly rumbled his way in and my trusty fellow Club members had saved me a spot, that I slowly backed into. I then got out and open the deck lid so Peter could have a look at his new heart and lungs and then stood back as several people slowly came over to check him out. Comments emerged like, very nice and very neat (well done Hans, you are an artist). Then the questions started, "How big is it?" and "Who built it?". When I gave them the answers to both, they all just nodded their heads in appreciation of it. Larry even told me its about time I put a big motor in the Oval and Brad praised the fact that it was a Pobjoy motor. In fact, many other "older heads" in the VW scene also agreed that Stan’s motors are the best and that you can't fault his product. I always knew that, but it has taken a long time for other people to admit it too! (I love my Oval, can you tell!)

Getting back to Boris' Picnic Day, it was a very relaxed atmosphere as usual, the highlight being the '63 Splitty that was for sale. Not so much the old Bus itself, but the owner. Apparently he is well known at Summer Bay (Home & Away fame). I had no idea, so I just talked to him about his Bus. Some other Members (Mirae) though couldn't wait to get his photograph or tell him to dump the girlfriend he has on the show, because she is a two faced bitch (Peter Huckstepp, you are kidding mate, that is sad my friend, you need to get out more!). Anyway, he wanted too much for his Splitty, but that didn't stop the desperate Flat Four fanatics from "mobbing" him and his Bus.......pathetic!

The day ended with a group photo of us taken in front of some of our cars by a visiting Malaysian by the name of Stephen, who is Secretary of a VW club over there called "Negawsklov" (Volkswagen spelt backwards.....now thats different!). He and his girlfriend were very enthusiastic about our cars and thanked us for putting on such a good day. We quickly corrected him that its actually Boris and Club Vee Dub that put the gathering together, he just assumed that because there were so many of us about that it was our day! Once again, the good old yellow Club shirts came through for us, and to think, we wanted to change the colour.

Well I did at one stage. Dave.
