We
arrived at Maccas Narallen early, that's right you are reading
it correctly I said early. (Ed. Note -for those
of you who don't know the Silvestris early = rarely ...hahaha)
I had some Club business to do and wanted to get it out
of the way so I could chat to my mates. After doing this (and
picking Steve up after the shock of seeing me there so early)
I started talking to Muz while the Missus got a coffee. We checked
out the bikes in the car park from the Ulysses Bike Club(some
of there donks are bigger than Olly's....ok.all of them were).
The usual suspects were there; new members Fern & Dave in
their nice purple convertable were out for there first car show
I think. I counted 12 club cars, a good turn out. One who was
obviously absent was Bill? Linda was there but no Bill? Anyway
Stuart got a call from Derick saying he had broken down and would
meet us there so we decided to head off.
We had a casual cruise through Camden town centre and turned right
into the dust bowl that was the sports ground and ushered over
towards Ray Rolfe and his Type 3 fastback and began setting up
our cars. I put out the usual suitcases and stuff as I watched
in amusment as both Stuart and Corrin began polishing Comet.....why
would you bother, the dust was falling as fast as they could wipe!
I mean Murray's T3 looked so shiny......for about half an hour,
then it was just covered in a coating of dust. We decided to set
up the Club tarp for a bit of shade. Once that was up with the
banner also displayed, a group of big V8s rolled in behind us.
One of them was a green Ford Capri with a massive blower sticking
out the bonnet and huge exhaust pipes out the sides that were
extremely load and churning up dead grass and...yep....bloody
dust!
Once the ladies had made themselves at home under the tarp (Aunty
Barb was a noticable absentee, we missed you darl), it was time
for all of us to relax and take in the beautiful sunshine, except
for Peter Huckstepp, who was busy setting up his display. All
the kids wandered off around the ground (make mental note to keep
my eye on that Chris Huckstep boy sniffing around my Amy) and
Leanne and I decided to check out all the cars and fill out our
voting sheet. Still no sign of Bill Daws though, so I decided
to ring him and get him out there!
Filling the form out turned into a bloody nightmare, it was so
hard trying to get it right because there were so many excellent
cars. Drag cars, muscle cars, nice 6 cyl GTR'S, hotrods, ratrods,
a sweet display of Morris', the famous slammed Willys from the
Motor Ex show, Ford XYs and HOs,Holden EHs HRs, two beautiful
black Buicks (one sedan and one convertable), some very early
pre '48 vintage cars (one that looked like Chitty Chitty Bang
Bang .....Leanne said that, not me), a lovely old FJ with a period
caravan that had collector's items from the 40's and 50's in it.
Parked in front of us was a fantastic display of Chevys, 55s 56s
& 57s. The pick of them was a '55 coupe that was pink and
black in colour with very deep dish modern rims. It eventually
won People's Choice, it caught the eye of everybody, especially
Fish who was that motivated he put a sign on his Beetle window
that read "For Sale $80,000 or swap for Bel Air"!. Keep
dreamin' mate. Now all these cars plus our own were....that's
right....covered in DUST, along with my boots too!
Got back to base camp to see Fish eating sandwiches he brought
from home (hey what about the rest of us buddy, he obviously forgot
that I hand out the fines), he said he was trying to save money
(I hope he's going to spend it on straightening his car!). My
kids wanted lunch themselves so we headed over the road to Subway.
By this time Bill had graced us with his presence and joined us
for lunch.....gee,thanks mate!
A couple of hours later and the trophies were ready to be handed
out, so we packed up our site and headed over to collect them
all....(yeah right). Half way through this,BIG GIRLS BLOUSE BILL
decided he had had enough and was going home...oh poor snookums
was tired......(I hope he has more stamina in other areas.....for
Lindas sake!). One very surprised member was Shane when he took
out top commercial (for his Spliity ute). He said he "oh
my tummy feels all funny after that".....(oh crap another
girl's blouse, where is Brad Young when you need him urinating
everywhere marking his territory like a real man.........or animal).
Flat Four as a group did triumph though by taking out a trophy
for best club. Well done to all who attended, the old yellow shirts
did it again for us.
After this it was battle stations as we all jumped in our cars
and tried to get out through the one gate in a swirl of dust leaving
Peter, Dawn & their boys to pack up their display amongst
the mayhem. I would have helped but I had a date with my neighbour
to watch the footy with a six pack of Crown Lager....ah, just
what I needed after a day of breathing in all that dust.
