Barb's Bits - July 2011
Hello everyone,
Well here I am again and it only seems like yesterday that I first came on board the new web site. How good is it?? Scott has done a wonderful job and everyone you talk to is commenting on it.
Unfortunately to start off with this month I have some upsetting news concerning Dawn Huckstepp. You see Dawn is having a mastectomy this Thursday (7th July) after several weeks of tests. The good news is that the doctor's seem to think they will get all the cancer with this operation and I have to say Dawn is in very good spirits. I am sure you will join with me in wishing Dawn and the rest of her family our very best wishes and kindest regards. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. (UPDATE: Dawn is doing fine and is in good spirits , thanks to all for the words of support and encouragement, Peter)
As you know we went down to Berry on the weekend and what a beautiful day it was. Dave has written a story and if you haven't already done so please read his account of the day and take a look at Dan's photos while you're at it. We went to Kev and Amy's house for a bbq and Club meeting which finally got underway after four (yes four) haircuts!!! Our Kangaroo Valley camping trip was discussed and a big thank you was given to Dan for carrying all the Club stuff down in the "Big Kahoona"!! Rachel was fined for burning a venetian blind that had seen better days (how was that for an initiation Rach'??) and all in all it was agreed that even though it was wet, a great weekend was had by all. For those of you who might be reading this for the first time our Club "fines" are only done in fun and they usually don't exceed $2.00!
The Super Cruise was discussed next and even though there were some small issues that need to be addressed Murray was very pleased with the feedback that he got back from those who attended. The most pleasing comments were that it was better than last year and one from a guy in the Mazda club who said that his club could not have organised it any better. Kevin and Leanne were congratulated on doing a terrific job by having everything ready when the cruisers got to their destination and even though a small profit was made, the feeling is that this event can only get bigger and better.
Now for some really exciting news! Murray and Vicki have won a trip to Hawaii to be taken any time they like!!! How great is that??? It couldn't have happened to a nicer couple but the rest of us are thinking that this would be a great Club run!!! Congratulations guys, you are gonna have a wonderful time for sure. While we're on the subject of the Flemings, I would like to wish Rochelle a very happy 21st birthday on the 21st of July. I don't know about the rest of you but I can't believe the chubby little 10/11 year old we first met has turned into this confident, beautiful young woman. Hope you have a wonderful birthday Rochelle with lotsa pressies to go along with it!!!
Some of you may or may not know that Steve has had a bout in hospital. After three days of putting up with a lot of pain and diarrhoea, I finally talked him into seeing his doctor who thought it was appendicitis and promptly advised him to go to emergency. Anyway to cut a long story short, it turned out to be an inflamed colon and in the next four to six weeks he will be having a colonoscopy and biopsy to see what is going on. On top of this we have been given the very sad news that his Dad has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I only tell you this as we are taking each day as it comes and if we don't get to some events or meetings, there is a very good reason why.
You know it's often said that it's a small world. Well how's this. At Kevin and Amy's on Sunday, their next door neighbours came over to have a look at the cars that were all parked in the driveway. Suddenly Rachel (our newest member) got up and all at once it was "old home week"!! It seems they were great friends from way back when they used to do line dancing together!!! Like I said "it's a small world."
Well I think that's all for this month. Don't forget the Jamboree pub run onthe 24th July and the Club meeting on the 7th August.
Until then, keep the shiny side up.
Barb
