Blast From The Past - July 2011

What a glorious day for a cruise!! After a day & all night of sprucing up our house to put it on the market, Leanne & I were looking forward to a day out cruizin & met up with the gang at Maccas for breakfast.

Arrival at Blast From The PastWe took The Oval out & found Murray & Vicki in their Oval, Rachel & her girls in the Ghia, & three Kombis driven by new people that had read our website & decided to join us for the cruise down. I am sorry but I cannot remember their names but they had two 70 bays & a T3. Well done Scotty, the web page is working & attracting new cruisers. We then darted over to Koshigaya Park & hooked up with Dan in The Big Kahoona & Steve & Barb in Brandy pulling little Penny The Teardrop. With Bill taking up the rear in the Stealth Colarado, we took off at about 9.00am.

The run down was sweet & we picked up Amy & Big Kev in Eyore at Albion Park McDonalds & continued on. Great day for a drive hey & the coast past Kiama was superb. Rolling into Berry & Rachel missed the turn as the rest of us headed down to the park. We all rolled in & as usual made a grand entrance with all the people stepping back as Flat Four parked & got out.

Not long after that Rachel made her way in after taking the scenic route to get there. Steve & Barb had a crowd gathering around as they proudly opened up their trailer. Big success Steve, well done!Penny the Trailer

I made a beeline for the toilet having wanting to go since we hit Mount Ousley! Leanne & I, along with Murray, Vicki & Dan then headed into the markets to check things out. Here, Dan & I found a stand selling some great chilli sauce & couldn't resist buying some. I then got my fix at the old tool stand & picked up some good AF spanners. We then went into the town & Dan parted company with several dollars at the lolly shop (gee the kids are naughty aren't they!). We then looked at the great mens shirts at a store there. Very expensive & very paisley. By now it's midday & a decision was made to head to the old pub in the centre of the main street for lunch before the crowd hit. This proved to be a good decision because by the time we ordered & got our food.....it was packed!

Back to the markets & through to the cars & it was 1.30pm & the organisers were getting ready to wrap it up. How quick did the day go!! There were a lot of very nice cars there & the one that caught my eye was the early notch back with its slammed stance & alloy dragway rims....I think that's what they were? There was a stack of Splitties & Bays but we counted only 2 Lowlights. Getting rare people hey!!!! The car of the day went to Greg Maros & his stock restored 63 Split.

Lots of nice VWs
With raffle done, we rolled outta there & headed to Amy & Special K's for our Club meeting & bbq. I want to thank Amy & Kev for letting us use their lovely home for the afternoon & after a brief meeting (check the cruise coming up on the 24th July) we all ate & watched the end of the footy. As darkness fell along with the cool night air, I closed up the deck lid & we all headed off for home. Rachel mentioned to me that she had not driven her Ghia at night & was going to take it easy. She also said not to wait for her, she will go at her own pace. Bill had gone home earlier because he had to go to work so Rachel was on her own. With her out in front, we left for home.Rachel's Ghia

As we got to the foot of Mount Ousley, I felt the burning head lights of The Beast behind me & punched the Oval as we waved goodbye to Rachel. With Olly, The Beast & the Big Kahoona hammering up the mountain, I started to think I had done the wrong thing leaving Rachel & the girls behind. Never the less, I powered on & when Dan hooked around me with Murray tailing him up the hill, I watched their lights disappear as I backed off. Leanne said,"Whats up?" I told her three things. One, our Pobjoy was getting hot after the hammering up the hill with the lid closed, two, I am busting for a wee & three & most importantly, Rachel has not driven at night before & Bill's words were ringing in my ear...."She can cruise back with you guys, she will be right then."

So, I pulled over at the rest stop to have a leak & open the deck lid & as I did this, she went on by in front so I jumped back in & gave chase. As we got to Appin, Rachel pulled over & let us go in front & she tucked in behind. This is when I realised Leanne & I had done the right thing & I felt a bit more comfortable now that she was back "under our wing." We have to remember people what this Club is all about hey. Cruising together & making sure we all get home ok. Sometimes we get a little carried away with our big motors & forget about what's important. I am not having a dig at anyone here but even on the run home from Kangaroo Valley, it would have been nice to cruise with everyone else.

Cruising home.
None the less.....I felt better that Leanne & I had done this & Rachel & her girls peeled off towards their home as did we to relax with
a beer & write this story. Great cruizin day!
