Leanne's Bus Goes To Hospital
After buying what I thought was a second hand 1916 Pobjoy for Leanne's Bus (turned out it wasn't), we now see her Kombi "Bunty" going into Klaack's workshop for the transformation after 3 months of headaches.
I have been kicking myself for a while now because I did what I tell others not to. I bought a second hand motor and got stung. I know of only one person who has had good luck doing this....and he did it twice! Our President Murray brought not one....but two second hand Pobjoys and they both are great. But me....not so lucky!
Adam Law has been great though. He pulled the motor down and told me it was stuffed! He tried to do it gently but Adam doesn't pull any punches. He tells it like it is......'you got ripped Dave!'. Gee thanks mate....now fix it! And he has. The only things we got out of the motor were the Kadrons, the con rods and one big counter weighted crank. Even the spare block I got with it was no good! Talk about bad luck.
So after several months we find ourselves about to install this very nice "Adam Law Engine". Hans Klaack has also reconditioned an 1800 gearbox for us and with it bolted in place (see pictures) we are ready to fit the motor. But not until I weld the tinware. After I fill holes that are not needed, it's up to Shane Hobson of Letter Art Signs & Graphics to apply some paint & art work (I'm thinking flames but Leanne is thinking butterflies....turn it up women!).
The motor is exactly what we wanted. The big crank is going to give us a stack of torque to pull our teardrop trailer everywhere. Adam has had the cam matched to the crank to give us the torque and legs to pull up hills. So it is a one-off cam and along with the one-off serpentine belt kit (shiny pulleys with a unique pattern, nothing like this in Australia at all....you have to wait & see!!!!) we look forward to the day we bring her home.
So wish her luck as she goes through her major operation/transformation and we look forward to taking her out with you guys as we run her in before our weekends to Canberra and Old Bar.
Dave.
