Jamberoo Pub cruise - July 2011

Got a call from Muz on Saturday afternoon saying he couldn't make the cruise so Leanne & I were the top Reps for our Committee & looked forward to the run.

The Oval! After watching Cadel Evans till 2.00am in The Tour de France...(how good was that!!!) we rose, had breaky & headed to Koshy park to meet up with the rest of the crew. We got there at 10.05am & met..........no one! A of couple minutes later Bill, Rach & Lilly rolled up in the Ghia so we waited for about half an hour & no-one else showed. I did get a message from Dan (thanks mate) & knew of Steve & Barb's sad week so we had a feeling the turn out would be light. That's ok but sorry to tell you guys, you missed a great cruise hey!

Leanne & I have done this run twice now....by ourselves...& were glad we had someone to share it with this time. Let me tell you I would do it again next week if needed, it really is a great run. Now Bill agrees! The Oval led the Ghia up & down Ously, into Albion park & up the pass (after a little detour as I missed the turn...hey Bill & Rach are new ok & they have to know The Flat Four way...at least two u-turns a run is the norm!). As we roared up Mac Pass I forgot how good this run really was....BLOODY AWERSOME DRIVE!!!! My Oval loves this stuff & Bill behind the wheel of The Ghia loved it too! At one point I had the rear of the Oval sideways as I powered around a hairpin corner, with Leanne telling me to behave. I gotta tell you guys you really did miss a beauty. The road is very good & really enjoyable. The Ghia

At the top, we passed The Robertson Pie Shop & headed back down Jambaroo Mountain Road which turned out to be a little hairy. All the rain during the week had put a lot of debris everywhere & this trip down on this road is not as nice. The road has not been repaired for many years & to be honest I would probably not take this way again as the Mac Pass is far easier. Our Kombis would struggle I think. Too steep at stages & very very tight skinny turns.

Anyway, we reached the pub exactly 1 hour & 40 minutes from the time we left Koshy Park. It was agreed as we got out of our cars that the next run would be to the Illawarra Fly, we passed it on Jambaroo Road. Bill & Rachel are really keen to go there as are we & the cruise there is fantastic. With adrenalin flowing after such an awesome cruise, (& Lilly's tummy turning after all the bends, poor little thing) we relaxed in the Pub & ordered our lunch. Sinking a brew together, Bill & I chatted about all things VW whilst Leanne & Rach talked about......chick stuff! Ironically we all had the same dish, roast lamb & vegies. It was so bloody good!!! A real hearty pub meal with a s#$tload of gravy!

WMmmm lunch....ith our stomachs well & truly full, we took a stroll along the main road to walk it off a bit. Unfortunately there wasn't much happening in good old Jamberoo on this particular Sunday. So we decided to head off & said our goodbyes & jumped in our cars for the run out. Up & over the hill & into Albion Park, we cruised at a good pace up Ously & with the good wife taking a nanny nap as Bill, Rachel & Lilly took the Picton Road turnoff (they had to pick up Georgia at Camden). I put the boot into my Oval up & over the mountain. She woke up to find me flying up the outside lane as I flew passed other cars. As we hit Appin Road, she turned around to see no Ghia behind us & said, "You've done it again haven't you.....you have left 'em again!!! After accepting her apology as I explained that they had turned off earlier....yeah right....we continued on home.

I want to thank Bill, Rach & Lilly for their company & I know the rest of you Club members had something else on but hey......you really missed a great opportunity for a great drive.

Until next time, choose to cruise! DaveJamberoo Pub
